02

Adjustment Day.

A date will be scheduled for an insurance representative to complete an inspection for insurance purposes. While this is in many ways similar to the assessment we perform, the insurance company will want to assess the damage themselves. Our project manager will be on site to ensure the insurance adjuster sees the extent of damage and doesn’t overlook any affected areas. After the inspection, an insurance scope will be released, stating the extent of the insurance company’s assessment of work to be done.

Initial Inspection.

Your journey begins with your personal project manager completing an initial inspection. Once damage is found, we provide a full assessment report complete with photos along with a contract to sign, allowing us to communicate with and work alongside your insurance company. Your project manager will then assist in calling in the claim to begin the process.

OUR

INSURANCE PROCESS

Your home is one of your greatest and most valuable assets. As such, the integrity of your exterior is essential in providing protection for you and your home. While the exterior condition is expected to preserve a long, resistant life, weather can unexpectedly and drastically shorten its lifespan. Any affected exterior element, whether it be the roof, siding, gutters or windows, could lead to widespread issues affecting the interior condition and even the foundation of your home.

Common damage primarily includes hail and wind damage, and fortunately, both types are typically covered under insurance policies. Therefore, MRN Contracting has a dedicated claims division to monitor each customer’s claim from start to finish—ensuring a timely process and fair proceedings.

HAIL DAMAGE

TYPES OF DAMAGE

Hail damage can be tricky. Insidious in nature and not always visually evident, hail damage can dramatically shorten the lifespan of your roof. A significant percentage of roofs that are hit by hail never get replaced because homeowners don’t see the damage. But if the damage is there and meets the right criteria, your insurance company will most likely pay to replace your roof, and even gutters and siding, provided it’s correctly assessed and that you act quickly to ensure your claim is filed within their limited claim period.

If your area has recently experienced a hailstorm, you may see obvious signs of damage, like pings on your car and dents in your siding. But hail can also cause significant damage to your home’s roof, and often, it’s not so obvious. To better understand what we look for, let’s explore three common types of hail damage.

WIND DAMAGE

TYPES OF DAMAGE

High winds can cause serious damage to your roof, even without hail or other harmful weather. High winds do not hit your roof evenly across the surface, which permits damage by lifting pieces or corners of shingles and thus curling the material, loosening the nails or ripping it off completely. This can leave your roof exposed to the elements.

If you live somewhere where windstorms are a regular occurrence, schedule a free, no-obligation roof inspection to avoid future problems. We can assist with handling wind damage insurance claims, which are often covered under your homeowners’ insurance policy. To better  understand what we look for, let’s explore five common effects of wind damage.

OUR

RESTORATION PROCEDURES

Your roof provides essential shelter, protecting you and your most valuable belongings from the worst weather. Roofs are designed to withstand the elements, but during a severe storm, your home may be damaged by wind, hail, or debris.

If your area has been affected by harsh weather, and you suspect damage to your home, it’s important to identify the extent of loss and seek out professional assistance. If left untreated, exterior damages could become interior damages.

MISSING GRANULES

Our technicians check for missing granules that have exposed the substrate, or black layer underneath them. The substrate exposed should look fresh, or not as if it has been exposed to the sun for an extended period. This will indicate new hail damage as opposed to anything preexisting.

SHINGLE BRUISING

Bruising occurs when a hailstone’s impact disperses the roof’s granules.  Bruising will feel like indentations on your roof’s surface. They are not always visible but should be addressed upon discovery, as failure to do so can cause holes to eventually form in your shingles.

CIRCULAR CRACKING

When big enough, hailstones can cause circular cracking around the hit itself in a half-moon or full circle shape. This sort of cracking indicates larger hail and a shingle that has been damaged through to the fiberglass matting, which can make it highly susceptible to water penetration.

MISSING SHINGLES

An obvious sign of wind damage is missing shingles, exposing the upper portion of the lower course of shingles to the elements. The missing shingles can allow water to more easily penetrate the attic.

CURLED OR LIFTED

Curling shingles are most often found at stress points on the roof, i.e. the edges, the corners, near the chimney, at the ridge, etc. Curled or lifted shingles can no longer keep water from leaking through the roof.

LOSS OF GRANULES

Mineral granules serve as an additional layer to your shingles and home to protect your roof from excessive sun exposure. Strong winds can contribute to the premature loss of this protective coating by knocking your granules loose. When granules come loose, they often run through your gutter system with water and pile up on the ground.

CRACKED SHINGLES

High winds can cause cracks in the roof shingles, allowing an easy entry point for water to penetrate beneath the surface and into the home.

CREASING

A common failure from wind pressure exposure is creasing, where the shingle tab is bent up and down until a crease or fold forms along the edge of the shingle tab. This creasing pattern indicates that the damage may be a result of excessive winds.
